Exotic animals generally do NOT make good pets because they are high maintenance. Iguanas, snakes, turtles, birds, etc. probably would not be good choices for you. Like you have already discovered, iguanas and other lizards are difficult to provide properly for. Snakes are not good choices since most owners do not realize how dangerous some of them are or how big they can become. Most turtles require lots of care and also get sick a lot--hard to keep healthy. Birds are social creatures and need lots of attention. They can also become aggressive when they mature. The best suggestion I can make is a tarantula--it's unusual, not expensive, and not hard to keep if you do a little homework. Whatever pet you choose, make sure you have a vet that can provide routine and intervention care for your pet.

I've got it, a tarantula. There are hundreds to choose from, tame ones or aggressive, to plain ones and beautifully colored ones. They are not hard to take care of at all. They don't need heat lamps and all that crap. And you can find them in price range from $10 all the way up to the hundreds, depending on what you want. I have 15 of them, and as long as they eat a couple crickets once or twice a week, and have fresh water, they are fine. Some can live up to 30 years.

A chinchilla! They have personality plus, upkeep is cheap after your initial outlay: very large cage, ceramic tile, house, food dish, water bottle and large wheel. They are soft, friendly and quiet.

The most exotic pet you could own would be a dragon because a dragon is magical creature. Another exotic pet would be a unicorn, because the are not a alive. They only exist in stories.
